About Takiwā and Taurahere
Takiwā and Taurahere
Takiwā and Taurahere are a collective of Ngāpuhi who meet regularly to talk and act on issues that impact on Ngāpuhi in their particular area. Their geographical boundaries are indicated on the map.
The Takiwā are a representative group of marae/hapū located within Te Whare Tapu o Ngāpuhi.
Taurahere are like Takiwā only operating within urban areas. There are currently two, Te Taurāhere o Ngāpuhi ki te Tonga o Tāmaki Makaurau (South Auckland) and Ngāpuhi ki Waitematā (West Auckland).
Takiwā and Taurahere elect two Trustees each - one who acts as a proxy - to represent them on the board of governors for Te Rūnanga-Ā-Iwi-O-Ngāpuhi.
Both Takiwā and Taurahere hold elections on a three yearly cycle to elect officers, including the Trustee representatives.
