The purpose of registration is to collect in a centralised place the contact details of all those who affiliate to Ngāpuhi.
You are then:
- Part of the tribal profile
- Able to vote (if you are 18 years +) in Takiwā elections, and processes needing your support like any future settlement of Te Tiriti o Waitangi claims
- Eligible to apply for grants and/or scholarships that you may be entitled to
- Along with other Ngāpuhi around the motu and the world, able to be readily communicated with.
We collect your contact details, occupation and whakapapa, and enter it into an electronic database. This database stores only the information you give us at the time of registration. You will need to advise us if your details change.
Registration is done from a hapū and marae perspective to help people make connections back to their marae. It also gives those who are 18 years + and registered, the opportunity to participate in decisions that affect Ngāpuhi and vote in Takiwā elections.
Registering our people is an ongoing project and will take several years to establish a comprehensive list of who whakapapa to Ngāpuhi. The registration forms are available from the Rūnanga office.
